NYSC Special Cases Guide (Exemption, Exclusion, Married & Medical Considerations)

Introduction

During mobilization and registration, some Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) fall under special categories recognized by the National Youth Service Corps.

These “special cases” affect eligibility, deployment, or service conditions.

1. Exemption from NYSC

Who Qualifies for Exemption?

You may qualify for Exemption if:

• You are 30 years or older at the time of graduation.

• You have served in the Nigerian Armed Forces or Police for at least 9 months.

• You are a staff member of security agencies.

• You are a part-time graduate.

What You Will Receive

Instead of serving, you will receive: Certificate of Exemption

Important Notes

• Date of graduation (not convocation) determines age.

• Exemption status appears automatically during mobilization.

  • 2. Exclusion from NYSC

Who Is Excluded?

• Graduates of part-time programs.

• Distance learning graduates.

What You Will Receive

Letter of Exclusion

Unlike exemption, exclusion is based on program type, not age.

3. Married Female PCMs

NYSC provides special consideration for married women.

Deployment Consideration

Married female PCMs may be posted to their husband’s state of residence.

Required Documents

• Marriage certificate

• Newspaper change of name (if applicable)

• Husband’s ID card

• Utility bill showing husband’s residence

• Husband’s domicile letter

Documents must be uploaded during online registration.

4. Medical Cases

PCMs with serious health conditions may receive:

• Deployment consideration

• Redeployment approval

• Special camp accommodation

Required Documents

• Government hospital medical report

• Recent medical test results

• Doctor’s signature and stamp

Medical claims are reviewed and verified.

5. Foreign-Trained Graduates

Foreign-trained graduates fall under a special documentation category.

Additional Requirements

• International passport

• Degree certificate

• Official transcript

• O’Level results

• Evaluation letter (if required)

They must present original documents during physical verification at camp.

6. Security-Related Cases

Due to national security concerns, NYSC may:

• Restrict deployment to certain states

• Relocate corps members from high-risk areas

Deployment decisions are made centrally for safety reasons.
